The size of transaxle dictate the power (torque) that is delivered to the axle to turn the scooter’s wheels. EV Rider Afikim models (Breeze & Sportsters) have two transaxle types:
Transaxle Ratings: 12K and 15K, the 12K/8 mph and 15K/10 mph designation is nominal – an approximate name for average speeds.
The actual average speeds are:
- 8 mph is an average of 7.5 mph or 12 kilometers per hr with a 500 lb capacity
- 10 mph is an average of 9.3 mph or 15 kilometers per hr with a 350 lb capacity
The transaxle types become important when users want to go faster, but they are over the weight capacity of the unit. The important point is that no speed designation is absolute. The variables of load, incline, road surface type, weather, battery charge level, etc.
are all a determinant.
All the scooter specifications are for flat terrain. If the scooter rider exceeds the load capacity or tries to use the
‘lighter’ 15K/10mph transaxle in hilly terrain, battery range will not be effectively, or worse, they can burn up the transaxle.
Preserving the Warranty
EV Rider models with 12K/8 mph are those with 500 lb load capacities, dual seats, and cargo baskets. End-users purchasing scooters meant to carry things or more than one end-user must purchase the 12K/8 mph transaxle.
EV Rider cannot warranty the unit if the planned use will exceed it’s design
specification. e.g Breeze III GT-D with a 15K/10 mph transaxle and a 350 lb
capacity. If two end-users are going to use this model configuration, their
combined weight should not exceed 300 lbs, because all
specification are based on averages.
